We are all addicted to our digital leashes, and the constant dopamine hits they provide. Like most dependencies, it’s unhealthy in multiple ways. From a strict mind fitness standpoint, we trade away presence for distraction.
If you want to break free from that tendency, start by depriving yourself of its source. Begin each day with a digital detox. No screen-viewing for at least the first hour after you wake up. This means you can’t look at your phone, computer, TV, or anything similar during that time. Ideally, I’d like you to use that time to meditate, read, do some breathwork, etc. You can even do nothing. In fact, I encourage it. Sit with a cup of coffee, watch the sunrise, and think.
Notice how you feel. Are you itching for a hit?
