Many mindfulness practices fall short of genuinely holistic mental training by not including any component to develop and expand our minds. Being aware of your thoughts and objectively observing them is a critical skill. However, actively problem-solving allows us to grow in additional ways. It helps train your mind to think critically and creatively, which is invaluable in all aspects of life.
One of the easiest ways to do this is with puzzles and games. Try spending fifteen minutes daily working on one, preferably non-digital. For example, I usually solve the daily Wordle (admittedly on my phone) within the first hour after waking to get my thinking groove going. Then, I take a break at midday and play a tactile game. My favorites all come from a company called ThinkFun. But use whatever you have easy access to, like crosswords or Sudoku.
